"In Trust" is the third episode of the fourth season of Slasher. It aired exclusively on Shudder on August 19, 2021.

Plot[]

After Jayden's death, the games continue.

Synopsis[]

A flashback shows Seamus having sex with a man in the basement of the mansion. When Spencer arrives, he comes up, and is admonished for being late. When Spencer asks where the hunting gear is, Seamus says it is at the dock. Spencer reprimands him further, but the man comes out of the basement. Spencer realizes what has happened, and angrily orders Seamus to wash his face.

In the present, observing Jayden's body, Dr. Trinh states the death of the losers was not part of the competition. The group decides to leave the island as a group and go back to Merle at the boathouse. When Grace cannot leave her son's body, Theo and Vincent decide to stay with her. Seamus attempts to apologize, saying they will find the killer, but Grace blames him.

Heading to the boathouse, Christy describes the killer. They arrive at the dock, where the boat is gone, and Liv states Merle must have gone to sell the fish he caught. When Liv states Merle will most likely not come back till Monday, Christy asks if there is a way to call him. After finding out there is no cell service on the island, Florence tells her there is a satellite phone which only Spencer had access to. They go to the house to find it, not noticing the blood dripping from Merle's body, hidden in the rafters.

At the house, they find the satellite phone, destroyed. They consider destroying the will, but Dr. Trinh reveals it is only a copy, and the original one is on the mainland with Spencer's lawyers. They start to accuse each other of the murder, before suggesting the possibility of getting off the island, but are unable to do this without a boat. Dr. Trinh informs them the competition is supposed to go ahead, and they are still competing for the money. Theo suggests they all sleep together in the living room, and Seamus goes to get milk.

As Seamus warms some milk, Liv approaches him and tells him her mother told her. He admits that he's her father, and she asks why he never told her. He replies that he and Birgit put it to rest. She tries to connect with him, but he just assumes she wants the money, and when she says she doesn't, he mentions she should just drop out, which Florence witnesses.

Birgit brings food to Grace and offers her condolences. They both state the family is toxic and destroys whoever comes into their orbit, and agree to watch out for each other. Outside, Florence approaches Dr. Trinh, who holds an axe. She states she could give up the money and go back to how things were before. Dr. Trinh states she is paid well enough, and as a neutral party, she can make sure the competition is fair. When she insults Florence, claiming she has never earned anything, Florence grabs the axe and chases her through the woods, where they arrive at a wood chipper. Dr. Trinh accuses Florence of being the killer, which she denies. When Dr. Trinh says she will get the police after the weekend is over, Florence says they won't believe her. Dr. Trinh states her family will. Florence then laughs, and puts down the axe, claiming killing her was a joke. When Dr. Trinh calms down, Florence throws a piece of wood at her, knocking her into the wood chipper, before turning it on and listening to Dr. Trinh's screams as the wood chipper crushes her.

At the house, Seamus tucks Aphra in, and goes to talk to Christy. He asks if she loves him, and when she gets suspicious, he admits he is Liv's father. She accuses him of keeping secrets after he accuses her of suspecting he killed Jayden. She leaves angrily.

In the past, Seamus, Spencer, Grace and Florence have dinner. They discuss successfully killing a boar on a hunt, and Spencer states Seamus had headphones in his ears the whole time. The conversation turns to what Seamus was listening to, George Michael, who Spencer admonishes as gay, his words being thinly veiled insults toward Seamus. Birgit serves them gazpacho, and when Grace states it is cold, Seamus and Florence laugh, while Spencer tells her it's supposed to be.

In the present, the TV turns on, featuring a video of Spencer, who congratulates them on completing the first task, then tells them to go to the basement, where the next challenge is. When they notice Dr. Trinh is missing, they go to look for her. Vincent encounters Liv in the forest. He finds out Seamus is her father, apologizes for the family's treatment of her, then states if he doesn't win, he hopes she does. When he grabs her hand, she slaps him and walks away. Theo and Birgit find Dr. Trinh's remains in the wood chipper, and go back to tell the others. At the house, they notice Liv is missing, and Theo and O'Keefe decide to look for her, but Seamus refuses, angering Birgit and causing her to let the others know Seamus is Liv's father. Grace calms her down, and they leave the lights on for Liv to come back.

During the night, Florence goes to the kitchen, where she is cornered by Grace and Birgit.

In a flashback, Grace becomes sick, and goes to throw up. Seamus finds her, and asks if the food is too rich for her, before mocking her for growing up in a trailer park and saying Galloways take care of their own, to the pleasure of Florence and Birgit.

In the present, Grace and Birgit accuse Florence of killing their children, and attack her. Florence fight back, and her screams wake the others. Seamus and Vincent investigate, and eventually break in to the kitchen. Seamus pulls Grace off, but not before she bites off one of Florence's fingers. Later, while cleaning up, Seamus attempts to assure Florence they can win together, but she tells him there is no "we" in the plan. O'Keefe puts her finger in a bowl of ice, which Aphra tries to take.

They hear the tune of the basement, and along with Grace, they descend. They find platforms with wires dangling from the ceiling. They also find a note, which states they must cross, and the last person across is eliminated, and if someone falls, they start over. When they note that Liv is missing, they wonder if that means she's out, and eventually agree. On Christy's mark, they start going. A few are electrocuted, and the game pauses while they go back to the beginning. Seamus refuses to help Grace cross, while Florence's children help each other. O'Keefe offers a hand to Seamus.

In a flashback, Birgit and Seamus talk about how the ipecac affected Grace, who Seamus says deserved it. She sympathizes with his lack of approval from his father, and they have sex. However, Spencer notices, and forces Birgit out, afterward reprimanding Seamus that there is "us and them" and he cannot trust anyone.

In the present, Seamus decides not to trust O'Keefe, and jumps alone. He falls to the floor and remains there until the others cross, eliminating him. Afterward, he and Christy share a moment, where he reveals he thinks he may be killed, and that he thinks she would leave him if he has no money. Christy tells him this isn't true, and they don't know each other. Grace comforts Birgit over Liv's disappearance.

In the past, Seamus gives Birgit emergency contraception, and treats her like the help again, causing her to realize their "relationship" is over.

In the present, O'Keefe comes to check on Seamus, and Christy greets them holding a fireplace poker. They talk about her relationship with Seamus, which he witnesses by entering the closet through a secret passageway and spying through a hole in the power outlet. She admits that she still loves him, and wants to keep him, even without the money. They leave to go find him. As Seamus, relieved, calms down, the masked person enters the room. Upon noticing Seamus behind the wall, the person grabs the poker and thrusts it through the hole in the wall, stabbing Seamus in the eye and killing him.
