Plot[]
Synopsis[]
In a flashback, an artist, Ray Craft, crushes some of his art in a special machine. Dr. Trinh enters, and convinces him to tell her about his art. He says that after turning 50, he wondered what he was doing, so he took his art from his shows and destroyed it in the machine. He offers to show her how it works, and when he does, she pushes his head into the machine and crushes it, sticking her fingers in his brain matter.
In the present, Dr. Trinh wakes up, and Liv, Theo and Vincent interrogate her. She tells them they are dense, to believe she was dead without actually seeing her body, just like Spencer told her. She then claims was Spencer's idea to have a predator weed out the week. The game was his, but the punishments were hers to do as she saw fit. She could do what she wanted as long as she left one of them alive. When Liv goes off on her for killing her mother, who didn't have a stake, Dr. Trinh replies she couldn't pass up the opportunity. She gets free and attacks them, but as she tries to strangle Liv, Vincent knocks her out with a chair.
When she wakes up, again secured, she tells them she really is an end of life specialist. Spencer found accusations of malpractice in her record that were promising to him. In exchange for keeping her around, she killed his pests, including Ray Craft, who Theo claims may have been O'Keefe's father. Dr. Trinh claims that was a test, which she passed. When they question how she survived the wood chipper, she claims they saw guts and a necklace. A flashback showing her survival reveals that it was Merle's body in the wood chipper.
In the present, Liv and Vincent want to kill her, but Theo says they can put her away and invalidate the will. Dr. Trinh says she will not return to the mainland as Persephone Trinh, who is dead. She reveals she has information on all the survivors, specifically a murder VIncent committed in Kent Pen, a cover up in Iraq Liv was involved with and seemingly a murder Theo committed, which will be released if she does not present an heir. Vincent loses control, and stabs and kills her, before telling the others that Spencer did not make idle threats. The bells begin ringing, signaling the beginning of the next game.
They find a device in an icebox, with Spencer's body, three daggers and a card containing what Vincent interprets as a quote from Macbeth. He determines the quote is about having the guts to do what needs to be done. When they investigate, they find Spencer's heart removed, which Liv assumes to be symbolic of the fact that he apparently didn't have one. They move the body to the dining room. Theo protests cutting him open, but Vincent says it is the last challenge, and Dr. Trinh is gone, so there is no killer. They ask what his secret is, but he refuses to tell them, stating no one will believe their story. As they begin cutting Spencer open, Theo leaves. Vincent eventually leaves to throw up. When he encounters Theo, they insult each other, blaming each other for being the favorite. Vincent eventually pulls his knife and chases Theo through the house, attempting to kill him. Theo hides in a secret passageway, but Vincent finds him. He chases him through the passageway and to the study.
In a flashback, Vincent chases Theo through the same passageway, and they overhear a conversation between Spencer and Florence where he reprimands her for babying Vincent, believing him to be a psychopath. Florence protests, but Theo screams and Spencer opens the passageway. Theo tells them Vincent was strangling him. Florence says they were just playing, but Spencer refuses to listen, and beats Vincent. Theo smiles. In the present, Theo escapes. Vincent follows him out of the passageway, accusing him of having Vincent sent away. Theo admits there is some truth to this, but claims he was just a child. Vincent keeps attacking him, and Theo eventually kills him with the wire saw, leaving him horrified as a shocked Liv walks in.
Liv cleans him up, and Theo laments, saying he tried to prove his whole life that he wasn't like Vincent and Spencer. He blames himself for the deaths of Vincent and Florence. Liv consoles him, telling him he fought against the darkness of the family and is a good man. She cleans him up and they have sex, she claiming to be free of it all.
Afterward, they contemplate on how long they have known each other, and how they got to where they are. Liv says they still need to find what is in Spencer, and Theo tries to convince her to let him do it. He says Spencer made clear he wanted him to take over, but Liv says she is a Galloway too. He mentions that her mother was used by Seamus, and no one knows she is a Galloway. He offers to marry her and sell the house when they get back to the mainland, but she does not want to. He says it is the only way she can get the money, and she seemingly agrees, before asking him to lie down with her. He eventually tells her his secret, he crashed his car into a daycare center while drunk, and Spencer paid off everyone to not talk. He claims he wanted to do the time, but Spencer convinced him the kids would want him to do good. He asks her what she did, and she breaks his neck. Later, she throws his body in the wood chipper.
Liv wanders through the house, alone, and arranges the bodies to look like Dr. Trinh killed Vincent. Afterward, she rips apart Spencer's insides until she finds a bullet, which she opens to find a deed giving access to all of Spencer's properties and holdings. She walks down to the dock, covered in blood, and collapses, crying, when she sees the supply boat arrive.
Later, Liv, visibly pregnant, is shown in the house. A man offers to get new life into the house, and she tells him she grew up in a torture chamber. When he asks about keeping parts of the floor, she says the wood needs to be replaced, as it is where Theo killed Vincent, before correcting herself and saying Trinh. She says she is planning on buying a penthouse in the city for her little girl. The man congratulates her, and she says it is a relief, she couldn't love anything that looked like Spencer, Theo or Vincent. She contemplates a parent hating their kid for something they didn't do, and what that mixture of love and hate could do to someone. As she says this, she sits at the head of the table, hallucinating the Galloways standing at the other end, and smiles.
