"The Sins of the Father" is the second episode of the fourth season of Slasher. It aired exclusively on Shudder on August 12, 2021.

Plot[]

In the aftermath of seeing Vincent, Dr. Trinh reveals that Spencer is dead, making it so everyone had to play to get the inheritance.

Synopsis[]

Continuing immediately from the end of the last episode, the group is shocked to see Vincent has returned. Florence greets him before saying she always knew he'd be back. He and Theo awkwardly hug, and Theo introduces O'Keefe. After saying he does not fully remember Seamus, he says Spencer found him a month ago and paid for his flight back. The family is angered, and attempts to confront Spencer, but Dr. Trinh informs them he has already taken his end-of-life medication. The family is horrified, and rushes back to the house. They find Spencer in his bed, the blanket covering him, and mourn. Dr. Trinh states his death was peaceful, and they leave, not noticing a puddle of blood under the bed from his innards leaking out.

Downstairs, the family mourns. When Jayden questions why Spencer would do it without telling him, Seamus has an outburst over him being the golden boy

A flashback to 19 months ago shows Seamus and Jayden being very close, with Seamus telling him about being excited about adopting Aphra. When Jayden asks how much it would cost, Seamus tells him about 50 grand, and he doesn't think Spencer will pay for it, given his disappointment in Seamus. Jayden offers to make sure he does, and Seamus calls him the best brother anyone could ask for.

In the present, the family tries to refuse to play the game, but Dr. Trinh states it is Spencer's will, and if none of them play, the money and property goes to his company. Seamus is the first to decide to play, followed by Grace, then the others. Upstairs, Theo shows Vincent his room, exactly the same as it was when he was kidnapped. Vincent asks if he is doubting Vincent is who he says, but forgives him, saying he would too. When Theo asks him about the kidnapping, he says he was kept for a couple of weeks and then adopted by a couple across the country, who were good to him, and he forgot about his old life, before Spencer found him unexpectedly. Theo tells him he has never forgotten how he failed him, but Vincent brushes this off, saying there was nothing he could have done. After some reminiscing, they are called down by Dr. Trinh to continue the game.

In the living room, Florence calls Dr. Trinh not a medical doctor, and tells her she wants her to leave. Dr. Trinh states she is the executor of Spencer's will, and will leave Monday with the winner. The two passively insult each other before Florence leaves.

Outside, Florence admires Vincent, who leaves to find Theo, after which O'Keefe calls her out for making him uncomfortable. Grace tells Jayden to win the competition, as she has worked too hard to let their money go to the family, who she considers garbage, and who she does not believe care about Jayden like he cares about them. Theo and Jayden reflect on the events together, before Dr. Trinh announces it is time for the competition to continue.

The group goes back to the climbing course, and Dr. Trinh explains the game. Stand on the knot at the bottom of one of the ropes, and the first to fall is eliminated from the competition. When Florence points out there is an extra rope, Dr. Trinh reveals it's for Liv, who she states is a Galloway, shocking the group. Florence and Grace protest, but Liv is allowed to join the competition. The group, minus Birgit, Christy and Dr. Trinh, stand on the ropes, and Dr. Trinh brings out the last part, a pad full of nails placed under each rope.

After one hour, the group get restless, and start to insult each other. Seamus in particular insults Jayden, calling him a puppet who does everything his parents want, and saying he cannot run the company without Spencer telling him what to do.

19 months ago, Jayden asks Spencer for help adopting Aphra. Spencer asks what Jayden would be getting out of this, and the answer is nothing. Spencer tells him he would cover the cost, if Jayden gets something from Seamus to balance the transaction, so he is thinking about getting himself ahead.

In the competition, Jayden sees his mother suffering from the cold, and gives her his jacket. Seamus and Florence consider this cheating, but Dr. Trinh says there are no rules. Seamus swings toward Jayden to kick him off his rope, but gives up, which causes Grace to call him all bark and no bite.

19 months ago, Jayden and his mother discuss the request Spencer made as training to run the business. When Jayden says Seamus has nothing he wants, he's even Seamus' proxy on the board of directors. Grace says he thought Seamus would one day take over the company, and Jayden says Seamus doesn't even want it, and will probably be too busy being a dad anyway.

In the present, Seamus asks Dr. Trinh to give Jayden a jacket. Dr. Trinh refuses, and Seamus calls Jayden the good one who didn't fall for Spencer's ways. He takes off his jacket to give to Jayden. As Jayden swings toward it, Seamus pulls it away, causing Jayden to fall off and land on the nails, eliminating him.

In the house, Grace and Christy examine Jayden's wounds, and Dr. Trinh informs him he is out of the competition. Seamus feels no remorse. When he asks Christy to come with him and Aphra, she says she will treat Jayden. Birgit is confronted by Liv, who blames her for not telling her she is a Galloway. Christy, looking for the first-aid kit, confronts Seamus on what he did. Seamus states millions are on the line, and they would be broke without them. Christy brings up his past with Spencer, and he states it made him a winner, and Jayden would have done the same if he was smart enough to think of it.

19 months ago, Jayden tells Seamus Spencer will pay. He then asks for Seamus' board seat, and tells him Spencer made it a condition. Seamus accuses him of being molded by Spencer after their father couldn't mold him. He agrees, but calls Jayden no brother of his.

In the present, Grace, Jayden and Christy go to the fallout shelter (the cabin from the first episode), which contains medical supplies. Grace enters a code on the keypad, but it does not work. Christy spots the person who killed Spencer in the woods. When they approach him and Christy attempts to remove the mask, the person slashes her arm and begins chasing them. Jayden eventually knocks them over, but they begin chasing him. He runs to the boathouse, where he hides behind some crates when they enter. When he steps in a puddle of meat and gets up, he faces them. Christy makes it back to the house and tells the others, who come out to look for Grace and Jayden.

19 months ago, Spencer praises Jayden for getting the board seat, and tells him he needs to be cruel in the world.

In a shack on the property, winches are tied to Jayden's arms and legs. Grace hears his screams and arrives, followed shortly by the others. As they arrive, the winches start up, and begin tearing off his limbs. They attempt to shut off the machines to no avail, and Jayden is brutally dismembered in front of his family.
