"The Widow" is the main antagonist of the fifth season of Slasher.
Background[]
The Widow begins their killing spree lining up to when Georges Rondeau returns from overseas. Aside from having them all in one place, it becomes clear that due to the killer's age, waiting until this moment is their only option.
When the first victim, Alistair Simcoe is killed, the police assume that due to his sadistic proclivities with prostitutes that he could've been killed as revenge by anyone in the lower class of the city, disregarding the idea that this is part of a bigger picture and that more murders will happen.
However, as the victims begins to increase it becomes clear that they all have a connection to a party they all attended twelve years prior to the events of the season.
Motivation[]
It's revealed in the final episode (Vengence), that Regina Simcoe is the Widow. It turns out that Margaret Mehar, of whom the police know is central to the Widow's motivations, had a daughter-- Regina. After learning of her mother's fate hidden away in the Botticelli residence, her existence is purposefully hidden from the police to give them the ability to throw her out.
Once she is cast from the house, another servant of the Botticelli sisters sees her and decides to take her in, telling her that "The world is unfair, you must become strong so that you can save the world," implying that the woman taught Regina how to fight and may have even directed (however indirectly or not) her anger towards the people responsible.
Twelve years later, after growing older and learning what exactly became of Margaret from Alistair Simcoe (of whom seemed proud of his actions that night), Regina decided to take matters into her own hands, and gruesomely torture and kill all those involved.
The Widow's Poems[]
During her killing spree, the Widow would follow up her murders with brief poems usually directed at her motivations, intentions, and future victims. It's never explained why she did this, but one can assume that it may simply have been a scare tactic in order to cause disruption and chaos among her targets.
Three victims didn't have a poem on their person; Horatio Dixon (although a note was given directly to Enid Jenkins), Salomé, and Basil Garvey. The last assumed only by the fact that not only was he the final target, but by this point her identity was revealed, making the poems somewhat redundant.
Victim | Manner of Presentation | Poem |
---|---|---|
Alistair Simcoe | Small paper roll inserted in the arm | "Alistair was first, one of many. The other gents will bleed from wounds aplenty. Friends of Margaret are my target." |
Nailed to Echo Tribune door | "Tattle tails, a woman's wails, a paper's lies for sooth. A living hell if you don't tell your evil, buried truth." | |
Enid Jenkins | Skin from her back is printed onto and displayed | "Five more who did their part, five who stopped a woman's heart. Their justice is a blatant lie, if they don't confess the five will die." |
Eddie Jacobs | Printed on the bottom of meat pie tins | "Justice for the unjust. Best served piping hot." |
Isaac Kashtinsky | Written on a pink origami heart | "One shot the arrow, another strung the bow, a third cut the marrow, and a fourth told her no. But the one who lured the sparrow, the one who set the bait, he will die in pieces and suffer all my hate." |
Melanda Israel | Paper left on nearby electrical generator | "Innocent or guilty, that is the question. But how do you answer, when they're known for deception? In your heart of hearts, you know it's true. You played your part, I'm coming for you." |
Georges Rondeau | Paper rolled into mouth | "A private message, a prophetic hex. The magician was tragic, his mind was vexed. I took what I needed, your heart is next." |
Another poem also becomes apparent with the death of Terrence Crenshaw, however since this kill was committed by Salomé, it does not count towards the Widow's motivation. The poem had several spelling mistakes as pointed out by Kenneth-- noticing that the words, 'head' and 'dead' were spelt as 'haed' and 'daed.' and there was also a notable lack of sophistication that the previous poems exhibited.
Victim | Manner of Presentation | Poem |
---|---|---|
Terrence Crenshaw | Paper positioned in his mouth | "Off with his haed; this bitch is daed. Watch who you betray or the Widow again will slay." |
Kills[]
The Widow's kills are the most violent and cruel of the series, with her main goal to exact as much pain as possible on the nine targets.
Victim | Cause of Death |
---|---|
Alistair Simcoe | Large shears inserted into his back and cuts made up through the spinal column after being tied to a wall. His body was later mounted on a post and a small paper note inserted into a wound in his arm. |
Horatio Dixon | Decapitated with a large hunting knife by sawing his head off, his severed head is left alongside another body (not a victim of the Widow). |
Enid Jenkins | Hands forcibly crushed in a printing press, rendering her immobile, then crushed by machinery after overworking the machine. Her back is later skinned and hung up in front of her window, used to display another message. |
Eddie Jacobs | Ankles, lower fifth lumbar, thoracic, and top cervical vertebrae are crushed, then head is caved in with a large mallet in that order. He is then cut up inside a butchery and his remains sent to Basil inside of meat pies (discovered when human teeth are found in it). |
Isaac Kashtinsky | Dragged along the streets after hands are bound to horse reigns. Later dressed in a toga and posed with a small bow and arrow. An origami heart is left with the next message. |
Salomé | Bound and drugged to keep him from going into shock, his arms and legs are severed with a hacksaw, chest cavity is cut into. |
Melanda Israel | Right arm and right leg are severed before being haphazardly stitched back on again. Metal barbs are inserted into the abdomen and extremities, and electricity is pumped through the body until it becomes horribly charred and burnt. |
Georges Rondeau | Strangled after being tied to a chair, his neck broken from the force used to do so. His head is severed and sent to Basil disguised as a gift. A note is left in his mouth. |
Basil Garvey | Eyes gouged out, face and scalp torn apart. |
