"Upstairs Downstairs" is the fourth episode of the fourth season of Slasher. It aired exclusively on Shudder on August 26, 2021.

Plot[]

The games continue despite Seamus' death. Secrets surrounding Vincent's kidnapping are revealed.

Synopsis[]

Christy and O'Keefe talk about losing the money, and Christy thinks they can make something out of it. Aphra eats a cork, but they stop her, and she says she wants to sleep with Seamus. O'Keefe tells her they can have a sleepover which makes her happy, while Christy goes to talk to her husband. When she enters the room, she finds the top half of his corpse hanging on the wall with its eyes removed. She screams, attracting the others, and accuses all of them of being the reason for his death. Eventually the TV comes on again, and they go down to hear Spencer's instructions, Vincent warns Theo to stop Christy from doing something crazy.

The TV, playing another tape, tells them the next competition will begin in 7 hours in the living room. Spencer then proceeds to lambast anyone who lost the competition, claiming the world only remembers winners. Christy, enraged, grabs a candleholder and smashes the television and leaves with Aphra. The remaining members discuss going until they are all dead, and when Florence suggests Liv is the killer, Grace and Birgit accuse her family of being the killers, before leaving. Florence and O'Keefe also retire, she is intending to lock them in her room. Alone, Grace and Birgit discuss Liv, with Grace believing she is the strongest of them.

24 years ago, Birgit gave birth to Liv, but Spencer gave her a choice, either raise the baby as her own, with him paying for education, but not recognizing her as a Galloway, or claim she is a Galloway, after which she would be fired, and the baby would be taken and raised as a Galloway, with no contact with her mother.

In the present, Theo and Vincent move Seamus' body. Vincent is not disturbed, claiming his adoptive family hunted. Theo states Seamus was important in his life because his father was never around, and got him into all the music he currently likes, loving everything. Vincent admits that he and Theo are strangers. Christy tucks Aphra in and tries to comfort her over Seamus' death, telling her that the others are awful people, and they need to leave.

Outside, on the shore, Liv finds a rowboat with a hole in it, and drags it away, observed by the killer. He attacks her, and injures her, but she flees to the house. When no one lets her in, she manages to get through a basement window, closing it behind her after a struggle. After hearing someone upstairs, she is found by Vincent, who states he was looking for wine. In the kitchen, Grace tends to her wounds, and Florence tells her she is out of the competition. Grace and Vincent, however, agree to let her back in, forcing Florence to acquiesce.

In a flashback to Liv's childhood, the Galloway kids got lots of presents for Christmas, but were ungrateful, while Liv got one thing, a math kit Spencer claimed was "all the way from Germany" due to not doing too well in school.

In the present, Grace stitches Liv's wounds. When Theo asks why she ran off, she tells them Vincent was trying to "connect" with her. Grace states Vincent was always bad to his core. When Theo confronts his brother on the matter, Vincent does not deny it, but mocks him for having everything handed to him instead of fighting for it, and states his intention to win the house and the money. Aphra has a nightmare, and when she wakes up, questions Christy if she is a bad girl. Christy tells her she is not, and asks if Seamus did anything she should know about. Aphra does not answer.

Birgit, in the hall, overhears a conversation behind a wall, and enters another secret passageway to behind the wall of Florence's room, where she hears Florence discussing her belief that Liv is the killer, which Vincent agrees with despite Theo's skepticism. She warns Liv that they want to kill them, and Liv tells her about the boat, but she needs sleep.

In the past, Vincent ties Liv to a tree and tries to burn her, despite Theo not wanting to go along with it. Birgit finds them and puts out the fire just in time, then slaps Vincent. When Spencer arrives, Vincent says the servant hit him. Spencer asks if this is true, and Theo says he was trying to burn Liv. Spencer is unsympathetic, claiming "you can't tame the rambunctiousness of a strong boy". In the house, Birgit tells Liv that Vincent is a bad boy, and to stay away from him, promising to get them away from the family, singing her a lullaby.

In the present, Birgit sings her daughter the same lullaby. Vincent hears it through the air vent, and wakes up. He follows the noise to Birgit and Liv, and wakes Liv up. When he questions the song, Liv tells him it is a lullaby, and he says his kidnapper sang it to him. After his immediate family arrives, they pressure Birgit, and she admits that her family kidnapped Vincent, as they needed money to get away. The ransom request was sent to Spencer, but he figured out it was Birgit, and had Vincent taken from them and sent away. Florence and Vincent accuse Birgit and Liv of being the killers, while Liv forgives her mother. Theo takes Vincent's gun and forces his family out, saying they will have the police handle it on Monday. Outside, Vincent and Florence agree to kill them, and take knives from the kitchen, before going up and stabbing pillows. Theo lets Birgit and Liv out the back.

At the dock, Liv repairs the boat while Birgit goes to the pier to spot anyone coming. There, she is attacked by the masked figure and taken away. She wakes on the beach, buried in the sand except for her face. As she cries, the masked figure buries her alive. As she dies, she remembers singing Vincent to sleep after kidnapping him.
